The best carpet cleaning equipment available is made by Bissell. They remove dirt and germs from your carpets very effectively and are simple to use. Annual deep cleaning of your carpets is recommended, and you should do it more frequently if you have kids or pets.
Preparations
After your cleaning session, schedule a family day out because your carpet will need time to dry. If at all possible, take every piece of furniture out of the space you plan to clean. To make your deep cleaning more effective, Bissell advises pretreating your carpets after you vacuum the area and before you start the deep cleaning, particularly in high-traffic or particularly dirty areas. Spray Bissell Stain Pretreat over the stain to pretreat your carpets, being careful not to apply too much. Before beginning the deep clean, allow the pretreat to sit for about five minutes.
Fill The Water Tank
Filling the water tank is the first step. By pulling the handle, remove the tank from the base. Next, release the latches on either side of the tank to separate the top from the bottom. Then pour hot tap water into the bladder—a maximum of 60 degrees Celsius/140 degrees Fahrenheit. Never microwave or boil water because you run the risk of permanently harming your bladder.
Add carpet cleaner next. Bissell advises using authentic Bissell 2X formulas for cleaning in order to achieve the best results and protect the safety of your machine. Put the solution—a total of about 5 ounces/138 milliliters—into the bladder using two measuring cups.
By locking the latches on both sides, make sure the tank’s top and bottom are connected. Place the full water tank back onto the machine base to complete the process. You’re all set to go.
Clean Your Carpets
Turn on and plug in your carpet cleaner. To recline the handle, depress the reclining pedal. To avoid overwetting the carpet, slowly move backward and forwards over the area, starting in the corner that is furthest from the exit. Press the spray trigger. To avoid mildew, make sure the carpet dries completely within 24 hours of cleaning. Release the spray trigger after moistening the area, then spray the same area again. When you notice that the machine is no longer sucking up water, keep making dry passes. Make sure to throw away any objects, hair, or debris you find on the carpet. Your carpet cleaner will turn off on its own if it comes into contact with a heavy object. If so, unplug it first, then plug it back in after removing any objects that may be inside the brush roll.
Empty The Water Tank
At the conclusion of the procedure, remove the dirty water from the tank, clean the filter, and empty the basket holding the hair and debris.
How To Use Bissell Deep Clean Carpet Cleaner
Step 1: Remove Debris with Vacuum
Because there might be stains hiding there and we want to get this carpet clean, moving furniture will be necessary before you can shampoo your entire carpet. To remove any loose dirt or hair from your path, vacuum the entire area.
Step 2: Pretreat to Loosen Stains
You must pre-treat your carpet in a similar manner to how you would pre-treat laundry. This additional step starts to loosen up stains. Use our formula to your advantage! Use a stain-removing spray formulation on the stains before pulling out your carpet cleaner. As you get the carpet cleaner ready, give it some time to do its magic. Look around the carpet, and then soak up any stains you find.
Pro tip: Pretreating the entire carpet will give you a cleaner result than simply using the machine, especially if you allow it to sit for a while. But don’t spray excessively. If you don’t completely rinse the soap out of your carpet when you clean it, it will draw dirt, which is something you don’t want to do.
Step 3: Setup Your Carpet Cleaner
Fill the clean tank with hot (not boiling) tap water once you’ve removed your carpet cleaner. While boiling water increases the chance of melting carpet cleaner components, hot water cleans more effectively than cold. To the tank, add the formula as directed on the bottle. Use the carpet cleaner solution that is specifically formulated for your machine. In addition to providing excellent cleaning results, it will also guard against damage that homemade mixtures may cause.
A word of advice: Avoid pressing the bottom gasket of any water tanks you are carrying to prevent leaks from occurring.
Step 4: Clean Your Carpets
In order to give yourself a way out and prevent having to walk across wet carpet, begin cleaning your carpet in the corner that is opposite from the door. Once with the trigger depressed and once with it not depressed are recommended for cleaning the same area. In this manner, the carpet is being sprayed with the solution before being pulled up by additional suction. The entire time, the brush rolls are removing the dirt and stains.
How quickly should you move? Each time you move, count to two.
Step 5: Rinse Your Carpets (Optional)
If you have the time, we advise an optional step in which you repeat the cleaning of the carpet using only hot tap water and no formula. Your carpets will receive a thorough cleaning and any remaining formula will be removed.
How To Use Bissell Carpet Cleaner On Couch
Ever wonder how to clean your chairs or couch? They both have the potential to be somewhat awkward and are probably not a regular part of your cleaning schedule. But nobody wants to unwind on a couch or chairs that are stained. BISSELL Rental is available to assist. We put together this brief manual on how to clean a fabric couch and chairs. And keep it clean!
Check the manufacturer’s tag for detailed cleaning instructions before beginning to clean the sofa or the chair. You’ll likely see a manufacturer’s cleanability code tag on the upholstery. If the fabric is coded “WS” or “W”, it’s safe to clean. If your upholstery tag is coded “X” or “S”, it is not safe to clean, due to the type of fabric on the couch or chair. Once you are certain that cleaning is permitted, check the fabric of your couch or chair for colorfastness in a small, concealed area.
Take off everything that can be removed from the couch, including throw blankets, pillows, toys, and anything else. Now that you know your couch or chair can be cleaned and the upholstery color won’t be harmed, do so. Most blankets and, in some cases, those pillowcases, can be cleaned in the washing machine. To make sure you’re washing them properly, you’ll want to double-check the tags on those, though. Make sure you wash them properly by getting in touch with the manufacturer if you can’t find a tag.
Concentrate on the cushions once all the “extras” have been removed from the couch or chair. Although they technically could be removed and should be, they cannot be simply thrown into the washing machine. Our BISSELL Rental products are helpful in this situation. For a fraction of the cost, you can hire our equipment for 24 to 48 hours and receive a thorough cleaning. Don’t forget to rent the hose and accessory tool for cleaning the couch!
Hair and loose dirt should first be removed from the surface using the attachments on your vacuum. Let’s give your couch and chairs a thorough, deep clean now that the dry debris has been cleared away. First, examine your couch to see if there are any obvious stains on the upholstery that require a little extra care. Pretreat those stains with one of our specially formulated formulas to remove them. We adore our Heavy Traffic Pretreat & Spot Cleaner’s abrasiveness. There are other areas with high traffic besides your carpet. Use the pre-treat as a fabric sofa cleaner to soften and remove stubborn stains and embedded dirt. The enzyme power of Pet Stain Pretreat and Spot Cleaner works on old pet stains or strange odors. Pet urine odors and stains on your sofa and chairs’ fabric are completely eliminated. Oxy Deep® Pro Pretreat & Spot Cleaner, another one of our formulations, is powered by oxygen. Oxy cleaners are excellent at removing colored spills like drinks and food. This formula begins to mobilize, lift, and penetrate stains where they originated as soon as it comes into contact with them.
Pick up the rented BISSELL Big Green or BISSELL Little Green after you’ve treated the stains. Put one of our machine formulas, like our Advanced Clean & Protect, in the machine. If you rented Big Green, attach the hose and the accessory tool; if you rented Little Green, unwind the hose. Spray the solution onto the upholstery by moving the nozzle slowly and steadily forward and backward. After that, go over the same area once more and vacuum up the stains and dirt. Clean the entire sofa and set of chairs by doing this.
You must allow it to dry after you’ve finished cleaning the sofa and the chairs. Each situation is different because of the various factors that can speed up or slow down dry time, but we advise waiting 4-6 hours before sitting on your couch or chairs. In order to hasten the drying process, you can also direct a fan at them.

What Happens When You Clean Carpets?
Using built-in brushes to extract deeply embedded dirt, a BISSELL carpet cleaning machine blasts a warm cleaning solution deep into your carpet to remove dirt and grime. The dirt and liquid are immediately removed at the same time by strong suction.
How Are Carpet Deep Cleaners And Steam Cleaners Different From One Another?
Many people refer to a carpet cleaner as a “steam cleaner”. Though they do exist, steam cleaners are only meant for use on hard surfaces. Using actual steam to clean a variety of surfaces, a steam cleaner has the potential to harm carpet fibers and remove the protective coating. A carpet cleaner’s main function is to force hot water and cleaning solution deep into the carpet in order to thoroughly clean it. The carpet’s fibers and carpet backing are then left clean after the solution and dirt have been extracted from it. A carpet cleaner, therefore, does not use steam, in contrast to actual steam cleaners.
Can Carpet Cleaning Equipment Be Used On Surfaces Other Than My Carpets?
Yes, most owners use their BISSELL Carpet Cleaning machines to routinely clean stairs, furniture, and car upholstery.
Any Type Of Carpet Or Fabric Can Be Cleaned?
Almost all carpets can be cleaned with BISSELL Carpet Cleaning machines safely and effectively, though some wool carpets need special handling. Silk and velvet upholstery fabrics shouldn’t be deep cleaned. Before utilizing our product, you should, of course, always abide by the treatment recommendations provided by the furniture manufacturer.
How Do Bissell Carpet Cleaning Solutions That Contain Scotchgard Work?
By using BISSELL carpet cleaning formulas with Scotchgard, you can keep your carpets looking newer for longer.
So how do you maintain the appearance of the new carpet while safeguarding it from stains caused by pets, children who forget to take their shoes off, and wine spills? It is insufficient to merely vacuum. This is where deep cleaning with Scotchgard protection comes in. In order to guard against future stains, Scotchgard forms a barrier on the fiber’s surface. With the help of BISSELL carpet cleaning formulas with Scotchgard, you can add some protection to your carpets even if they weren’t treated from the beginning.
Can I Substitute Bissell-brand Cleaning Solutions For Others?
Although it is possible, we advise against using other people. When combined with BISSELL carpet cleaning equipment, our formulas—which don’t contain dyes, phosphates, or optical brighteners—will yield the best cleaning results. The BISSELL brand of carpet cleaning formulas are the only ones that contain Scotchgard protection, and carpet manufacturers also advise reapplying stain-resisting formula at least every two years. The only consumer-use carpet cleaning system that upholds the Scotchgard® protection carpet stain warranty is created when these formulas are combined with a BISSELL ProHeat® series carpet cleaning machine. And for about two cents per square foot. ft., the cost is relatively minimal.
Why Does Vacuuming Once A Week Not Suffice?
The deep-down dirt at the base of your carpet’s fibers is simply beyond the reach of vacuums, even the best ones. The way the carpet is cleaned is designed to get at the dirt that vacuums miss. Interestingly, even though vacuuming accomplishes much more than carpet cleaning, the work itself is not all that difficult.
After A Thorough Cleaning, How Long Will It Take For My Carpet To Dry?
The type of carpet, the thickness of the pad, and the user’s cleaning methods will all affect how long it takes for the carpet to dry. After carpet cleaning, it’s generally best to wait four to six hours before walking on the carpet.
