The shark vacuum cleaner is one of the most popular vacuum cleaners on the market. Most models of vacuum cleaners have multiple filters that absorb dust as you dust.
Did your shark vacuum cleaner lose suction? Does it give off a bad smell? One of the main reasons for this problem is that we sometimes ignore cleaning vacuum cleaners.
There’s no need to do that again! You don’t have to pay for repairs or replacements. All you need is proper maintenance.
With our step-by-step instructions on how to clean the shark vacuum cleaner, your vacuum cleaner will return to normal efficiency.
How Often Should You Clean a Shark Vacuum?
Whether you have an upright shark navigator, a canned vertex, a robot AI, or a petpro stick, you should clean it regularly.
The user manual recommends that the pre-motor filter be cleaned every three months and the post-motor filter be cleaned every year.
High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters can operate for two years without problems. But if you find it inefficient, you may want to clean or replace it as soon as possible.
In essence, you need to remember to clean your shark vacuum cleaner four times a year so that it can work properly. However, even with Google Calendar alerts, you may miss one or two dates.
When Should You Clean Your Shark Vacuum? (Signs)
Fortunately, some signs of sharks tell you it’s time to clean up the vacuum cleaner. These include:
1. Bad Smell:
The shark vacuum cleaner must not emit an unpleasant and dirty smell. If so, this is an obvious sign that the vacuum cleaner should be cleaned up.
2. Loss of Suction:
It happens. When a large hairy ball or an old filter stops filtering, it will block the vacuum cleaner and cut off the suction. Whatever the reason, the loss of suction is the first sign of the need for a good cleaning.
3. Strange Sound:
If your shark sounds like it’s breathing, you know it’s time to take a bath. Because that’s the truth. This is very difficult for vacuum motors.
4. Visible Dust:
When the work efficiency is the highest, the shark vacuum cleaner will never leave bread crumbs and debris. If so, it means cleaning.
How to Clean a Shark Vacuum?
There are several shark models on the market, and the detachable components may be located in different places. Therefore, you need to refer to the model-specific manual to know where to find these components and how to delete them.
That is, the cleaning process is the same and applies to most models. Let’s get started.
What Do You Need?
- soap
- Sink or bowl
- scissors
- Microfiber cloth
- Soft bristle brush / soft nylon brush
- warm water
- Two cups of vinegar and three tablespoons of baking soda
- Gloves to protect hands
Instructions
1. Safety First
Before cleaning the shark vacuum cleaner, please unplug the power cord from the power socket or remove the cleaner from the charging station.
Ideally, you should clean the vacuum cleaner outdoors because there is dust there. If possible, put a sheet or any other covering under the vacuum cleaner to avoid making a mess.
Make sure the vacuum cleaner has no power supply, and then disassemble it We are not talking about removing screws or wires. Remove the dust cartridge and the foam / felt filter, the high-efficiency particulate air filter, and its cover and handle hoses.
2. Empty the Dust Canister
Next, remove the container from the unit and pour the dirt into the disposal bag. Soak the jar in soapy water and clean it with a microfiber cloth. Rinse with cold water and let it dry naturally.
Make sure that the can is completely dry before reassembly. This may take about 24 hours.
3. Clean the Filters and Screens
Soak the foam filter in soapy water and thoroughly clean it. Even after careful scrubbing, the filter will look stained. It is important to remember that they are clean.
Do not use any soap or cleaning products that may damage the filter. Gently squeeze the filter with your fingers to remove dirt. Keep changing the water until the water is no longer muddy. Roll up the filter with a microfiber towel to remove excess moisture. Do not twist.
For wrinkled filters, if debris is attached to the filter, gently brush off the dust with a soft nylon brush (old toothbrush). When cleaning, put the filter under the cold water tap of the plastic shell until the water is clear.
Wash off the soap on the filter and let it dry for at least 24 hours to prevent the liquid from being sucked into any electrical components. If the filters are worn, this may be a signal that it is time to replace them. Be sure to buy a filter suitable for your model.
4. Clean the Rotating Brush Head
The rotating brush bears the impact of cleaning, and you will find sundries stuck to it, such as hair, rope, and other dirt.
To clean your rotary brush, first, separate the floor from its handle. Most models have a button at each end of the floor attachment. Press these buttons to release the brush head for better cleaning.
Use scissors to cut off the fragments wrapped around the brush. Then, gently pull out all the sundries by hand. Be careful not to damage the bristles in the process.
Use a soft brush to remove stubborn dirt or immerse the brush in water for a thorough scrubbing. Allow the brush to dry for at least 24 hours before reconnecting.
5. Clean the Handle Hose
The handle hose on the shark can be easily disconnected. When you do this, look inside and you will find that it is full of sticky dust and dirt. Removing all these will help your shark continue to perform smoothly.
Take the hose to the sink or bathtub with soapy water and put it in so that it can be filled with water. Use a brush or rag to reach into the end for cleaning. Warning! Don’t let anything get stuck, especially the bendable parts.
Let the hose soak for a period of time to loosen the dirt where you can’t easily reach. Finally, let the clean water flow through the hose from the faucet until it flows out clean and clear from the other end. Find a place to hang the water pipe vertically so that it can drip dry.
6. Reassemble the Vacuum
The cleaning process is almost complete. Reassemble all components, taking great care to ensure that each component is completely dry. This cannot be overemphasized.
When everything is in good condition, wipe the whole vacuum cleaner to ensure that the outside is as clean as the inside.
7. Spread a Fresh Scent
If you find other smells a bit pungent, you can try fresh wave vacuum deodorization beads and shark vacuum cleaners, which will make your home smell very fresh.
Tips to Keep Your Shark Vacuum Clean Longer
- Always empty the vacuum bag or dust cartridge.
- If there is too much dust in the house, always check the filter.
- After each use, wipe off the dust on the vent cover to remove the excess dust.
