The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum is another Dyson replica utilizing cyclonic action to remove pet hair and dirt prior to final filtration. This vacuum does have good suction, but is not as good as the Dyson Animal. Please read our Dyson DC25 Animal Review for more information.
Cyclonic Action - The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum utilizes 9 cyclones to trap pet hair and debris to help prevent loss of suction while vacuuming. The cyclone action works very well on this pet hair vacuum. One drawback is that the Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum has a small dust bin, so if you have a lot of pet hair be prepared for frequent emptying of the dust bin.
AireTight HEPA Filtration - This is where the Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum really shines. The reason they call this the "Healthy Home" vacuum is because of its HEPA filtration technology. It traps nearly 100% of pet dander, pollen, dust mites and mold spores. This combined with the Microban antimicrobial treatment makes this pet hair vacuum very good and cleaning the air of pet smells and dander.
Onboard Tools with Turbo Brush - The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum has a good assortment of onboard tools including a turbo brush to help loosen pet hair from carpeting on stairs. The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum has a stretch hose design similar to a Dyson Animal vacuum. When the hose is pulled from the machine the roller brush stops and suction is diverted to the hose. All you have to do is pop on your attachment and you're good to go.
Large Wheels for Naviation - The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum has large plastic rear wheels which aid in navigation. These are essential with this vacuum considering that it weighs over 28 lbs!
Microban Antimicrobial Technology - This pet vac utilizes Microban treatment in the filtration system to inhibit the growth of bacteria, molds and mildews. If you or someone in your home suffers from allergies then The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum may just be the perfect pet hair vacuum.
Roller Brush Controls - Similar to the Dyson, the Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum has fingertip controls so you can turn of the beater brush with the push of a button. This is necessary if you plan on using your pet vac on hardwood floors.
Warranty - 5 years.
The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum is a good value for a pet hair vacuum. It possesses true cyclone technology to prevent loss of suction, but does have a small dust bin. It's HEPA filtration technology and Microban treatment make this pet hair vacuum top of its class in reducing allergens and cleaning the air as you vacuum. The turbo brush and crevice tools work very well, and this vacuum has adequate reach with a 30' cord and 14' stretch hose. If you intend to vacuum pet hair from hardwood floors this vacuum has you covered. You can turn of the roller brush with the fingertip controls.
There are some downsides to the Bissell Healthy Home however. The vacuum is very heavy at over 28 pounds, which means if you have stairs this vacuum may not be the best choice. Another drawback to this vacuum is the large size vacuum head. The vacuum does not fold flat, so it does not reach under low beds, and there are currently no "under bed" attachments available.
All in all, this vacuum is a good vacuum for the money. It is a very good choice for pet owners on a budget that suffer from allergies. If you can afford a Dyson DC 25 Animal or the Sebo X4, we would recommend those pet hair vacuums over the Healthy Home, but if price is an issue then the Bissell Healthy Home deserves serious consideration.
